            Child/Adolescent Mental Health Therapist

POSITION UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF:

 

            Clinic Supervisor

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

 

            Position is responsible for performing diagnostic assessments, developing treatment plans and providing direct treatment services for adolescents and children experiencing primarily mental health problems, through individual, group, and family treatment intervention modalities.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.      Provides crisis intervention, case management, and ongoing direct treatment services to youth and their families, based on client needs.

 

2.      Assesses client services needs and develops appropriate treatment/service plan, consistent with the needs of the client and his/her family

 

3.      Participates in regular interdisciplinary clinic staff meetings, accepts assigned cases and assists in accurate diagnosing and treatment planning of clients served.

 

4.      Works with other youth service agencies by participating in FAPT Teams as directed, which would meet regularly to discuss and confer on individual cases and formulate appropriate intervention strategies for youth and their families.

 

5.      Consults with NWCS staff and other agency staff regarding youth who are appropriate to be referred and served within this program, complying with laws and standards, and makes appropriate staff aware of referral criteria.

 

6.      Meets regulatory standards regarding documentation, including diagnostic summaries, progress notes, treatment/service plans and reviews, drug profiles, correspondence, release of

information and special reports, as well as maintains client records in compliance with policies and regulations.

 

7.      Receives regular supervision with immediate supervisor as a means of enhancing professional growth, reviewing the provision of clinical services, and addressing administrative issues.

 

8.      Acts as child and adolescent liaison with state juvenile facilities, school system, and local agencies.

 

9.      Works with parents in determining appropriate outpatient/residential treatment for adolescents.

 

10.  Performs other duties and assigned by supervisor which are consistent with the position, and in compliance with the agency policies and procedures.

 

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

 

Knowledge:

 

            Considerable knowledge of social , emotional, and physical development issues regarding children and adolescents; of therapeutic interventions, treatment methods for children and adolescents experiencing mental health problems; and, of unique life stresses and circumstances facing adolescent.  Working knowledge of other relevant youth services agencies an referral systems.

 

Skills: 

 

            Skill in crisis intervention and clinical diagnosis techniques.

 

Abilities:

 

            Demonstrated ability to assess client needs, and make appropriate clinical diagnosis; to provide effective treatment services to youth and their families on an individual and group basis; to work effectively with community resources in coordinating services for youth and their families; to intervene in emergency situations; to problem solve and mediate conflicts; to accurately prepare and maintain client records and related documentation and reports; to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; and to maintain confidentiality.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

            An advanced educational degree in a relevant human services field with experience working with youth and their families in a clinical setting; or, a combination of education, experience, and training indicating the possession of the essential knowledge, skills, and abilities.
