POSITION UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF:

 

            Clinic Supervisor

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

 

            This position is responsible for making initial diagnostic and screening assessments, providing crisis, short-term and group counseling, developing effective therapeutic relationships and providing effective treatment interventions for individuals and families having a broad range of service needs frequently in more than one single disability area.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.      Provides screening and intakes of new service requests in order to ensure that all individuals are adequately and appropriately served according to their individual needs and in accordance with existing Board policies and procedures.

 

2.      Provides short-term, crisis and group counseling interventions for individuals and families as assigned from the supervisor or supervisor’s designee; does so in accordance with the problems, needs, and the strategies identified in order to help the client progress achieving stated goals and objectives.

 

3.      Participates in regular interdisciplinary staff meetings, and assists in the accurate diagnosing and treatment planning of clients served in order to enhance professional skills and provide a high quality of client care.

 

4.      When appropriate, develops appropriate and timely treatment/service plans with clients and in consultation with supervisory and other clinical staff as the means for implementing appropriate services and developing effective alliances with clients.

5.      When appropriate, reviews with the client, supervisor and/or other staff on a regular but no less than quarterly basis, the progress made in reaching treatment/service goals and modifies as necessary the treatment plan to ensure that the treatment interventions remain adequately focused.

 

6.      Documents/writes appropriate and timely service related information including diagnostic summaries, progress notes, treatment/service plans and reviews, drug profiles, correspondence, releases of information, special reports, etc., to ensure that the provision of services is of good quality and is provided in accordance with agency and regulatory standards and requirement.

 

7.      Participates in interagency planning and service coordination activities to improve and enhance service continuity and effectiveness for clients by means of participation in interagency service team as is delegated by the immediate supervisor.

 

8.      Receives regular supervision (may include videotaped and/or live supervision) with the immediate supervisor as a means of enhancing professional growth, reviewing and processing the provision of clinical services, and dealing with appropriate administrative issues.

 

9.      Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor which are consistent with the position and in compliance with agency policies and procedures.

 

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

 

Knowledge:

 

            Considerable knowledge of Human behavior and development; of primary models for the treatment, management and therapeutic interventions with individuals having problems in mental health, mental retardation, and substance abuse, and the methods of individual, groups, and family psychotherapy; and, or abnormal psychology and the diagnosis of psychopathology using the diagnostic framework of the DSM IV or later educations.  Working knowledge of systems theory in working with families and the community.

 

Abilities:

 

            Demonstrated ability to assess client needs through clinical interview and develop and provide appropriate treatment services/interventions; to form ethical therapeutic relationships; to effectively problem solve, mediate conflicts, and know when to be confrontive with clients and/or their families; to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing; to accurately produce and maintain client records and write reports/summaries; to work effectively with community resources and represent agency to same; to effectively intervene in emergency situations; and, to apply sound ethical principles in work with clients.  To maintain effective working relationships with other clinic staff/consultants.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

            Master’s degree in relevant field with job related clinical experience or a combination of education, training, and experience indicating the possession of the essential knowledge, skills, and abilities.  Preference given to LCSW’s or LPC’s.
