Creating a Health-Promoting Environment for Youth

A supportive environment is foundational to building strong relationships with youth. Both the physical space and emotional climate communicate whether young people are safe, respected, and valued.

Physical spaces should feel predictable, welcoming, and youth-centered. Simple elements such as good lighting and calming colors help create comfort and belonging. Involving youth in decorating the space reinforces that their voices matter.

Equally important is the emotional tone. Warm greetings, clear routines, and shared group norms build consistency and trust. Celebrating small successes, encouraging leadership, and framing setbacks as opportunities for growth strengthens resilience.

By intentionally shaping both the physical and emotional environment, trusted adults create a foundation where youth can connect, participate, and thrive.

Problem Gambling Awareness Month

March is Problem Gambling Awareness Month (PGAM), which aims to increase public awareness of problem gambling and the availability of prevention, treatment, and recovery services, as well as encourage healthcare providers to screen for problem gambling and connect individuals to appropriate support.

This year’s theme, “Caring Communities, Stronger Futures,” emphasizes the importance of a community-driven approach to problem gambling awareness and support. We are spreading awareness through a table-tent campaign at local sports bars that will display tips for safer gambling and resources for support.

Awareness 2 Action

As March is Problem Gambling Awareness Month, we are reaching back into our archives to revisit this episode with Sam DeMello! Drawing from his personal recovery journey from gambling addiction and 15+ years in strategic leadership, Sam founded Evive to revolutionize gambling support. His vision combines authenticity and innovation to deliver stigma-free, accessible help when people need it most.
